Since my last post Vacation Workout included burpees, I had several people ask me what exactly they were. Here is the breakdown of the burpee
1. Start in standing position
2. Squat down
3. Jump back into plank position
5. Jump feet back up into squat position
6. Stand and/or :
7. Squat thrust into the air (jump squat)
That’s one burpee.
A push-up is in some versions (but not all) after the plank in a common variation of the burpee. So if you are feeling strong today, go for this version!
One of my clients was curios how it got it’s funny name, and she researched it one day. It turns out the Burpee got it’s name from the physiologist who invented it: Dr. Royal H. Burpee. There is your fitness fact of the day.
Now go try some burpees. They are a fabulous exercise to work your entire body out, get that heart rate up, and burn some fat and calories!
