I recently posted about our adventure to Michigan to visit family and our apple picking outing we did with our friends in Indiana (can read more HERE). When I got home I needed to figure out something to do with all those apples we got, so I decided to try to make some apple butter. I looked up several recipes and while some looked fairly simple, others looked to be a little more work. I decided to try something that wouldn’t take up too much of my time and it was a success! Most recipes I looked up called for sugar, but I tasted the apple butter 1/2 way through and it definitely did not need any added sugar. It was sweet enough with just the apples!
Apples (I used a mix of Gala and Fuji, 10 total)
1 tsp cloves
1 Tbsp Cinnamon
* Slice up apples. I used my corer/slicer to make them really thin
* Place apples, cloves and cinnamon in crockpot. Set on low for 10 hours. Enjoy the smell of cooking apples all day long!!
* Once apples are all cooked, blend with hand blender or soup mixer to get finer texture.
I topped my Apple Cinnamon Protein Pancakes and my Flax Seed Muffin with this, or it could also be used in greek yogurt, to top an Ezekiel english muffin, or many other recipes to add some apple flavor.
What do is your favorite way to use apple butter?
