I watched a very interesting show this weekend on TLC called extreme cheapskates. Some of the things people did were a little (a lot!) outrageous! From using cloths for toilet paper and washing them (gross!) to taking home other people’s leftovers at a restaurant, it was definitely extreme.
Even though some of these people had some crazy habits, one of them made a good point that we drive way too much when we should walk or ride a bike. Not only does it save on gas, but you get exercise in as well! The surrounding area of Orlando is not set up too much for walking, and we are pretty conditioned to drive everywhere. I once had a client going across the street from where I train, and instead of walking, they drove! And a co worker once had a client cancel their training session because they couldn’t find a close enough parking lot. (True Story!)
There are some places I go that are not crazy distances away,
so I decided that I am going to start walking and riding my bike more places. I live a mile from the training studio I train at, 1/2 mile from the grocery store, and two miles from the large shopping area down the road. Any of my quick trips I can easily walk or ride my bike to with little Roxy. I can either push her in a stroller or let her ride in the pull behind in the bike.
I started this morning by walking to work with Roxy (On Tuesdays and Thursdays I have to bring her with me if I have to schedule clients). I also took her to the grocery store because I had run out of salad greens. So I walked almost 3 miles going to places I needed to go. This afternoon my husband made it home to take care of Roxy, so I rode my bike instead. So far I made it 3 places without ever getting in the car. Feels pretty good! I plan to keep this up at least on Tuesdays and Thursdays and on afternoons that I don’t work till dark.
I’ll keep you updated on my miles logged!
Question of the day:
Do you walk or ride your bike anywhere that you go?
