I scream, you scream, we all scream for ICE CREAM! I have to say that ice cream has always been my weakness. I LOVE it! My favorite is soft serve, and now that all of these yogurt soft serve places have gotten so popular, it can be even harder to avoid my favorite sugar craving. (I know those yogurt shops seem healthier, but they are still loaded with sugar and all those sugary toppings.)
My sister-in-law recently gave me this machine called a Yonanas machine. It takes frozen fruit and turns it into an ice cream texture without needing to add extra ingredients. Bananas make the best base and have the consistency of ice cream. I decided I had way too many bananas in my freezer today and I needed to make some ice cream so I can have it when I am craving some.
I did a vanilla, root beer and coffee flavor ice cream just by using bananas and the extracts. I also did a berry one that was just a bag of frozen mixed berries. The berry one has the consistency of a sorbet.
These all tasted great! You can do any type of fruit that you freeze. My nieces love this machine and do apples, melons, and all sorts of other fruits. For people trying hard to lose weight, I would stick to the lower sugar fruits if you made this often. (Berries, apples, pears). I don’t typically eat a lot of bananas unless pre or post workout because of the higher sugar, but if you were using this as a sweet treat, it is definitely better than its high sugar high fat ice cream cousin.
You can pick up a Yonanas machine at Target, Wal-Mart, and many other retail shops, as well as online on Amazon or Ebay. This is a great machine to get the kids involved in making healthy dessert. It’s fun, healthy and tastes good to them! I can’t wait for Roxy to be old enough to make some of these with me!
