I wish I could show you how excited I get about all three of these ingredients. I LOVE chocolate (what female doesn’t really) and coconut anything, and I am obsessed with *good* coffee! So pretty much this is just yummy goodness in a shake form. So how on earth can all this be healthy and enable fat burning? Well it starts with the quality of your protein shake. There are SO MANY options out there when it comes to protein shakes, and I have tried a lot of them. As a personal trainer I have been exposed to many brands – both great and not so great. Back in my early twenties I didn’t really care about the quality of nutrients going into my body. I just wanted to do whatever it took to stay lean. Consuming a protein shake is usually on the list of *things to do* to help stay lean, so I did. I would buy whatever was on the cheaper side at GNC or the grocery store typically.
In my mid 20’s I had a hormone disruption going on and my body was all out of balance. I started being more aware of the ingredients I was putting into my body because I wanted to get my issue sorted out and I knew fake ingredients could potentially be hurting my situation instead of helping it. I stripped out any artificial sweeteners, colors, and flavors, and also soy protein from my diet. Let me tell you how many protein shakes use soy! It is a cheap protein to get so that is why a lot of them will use it as a filler in their product. Soy has the potential to cause some hormone disruptions so I wanted to stay far away from it.
That was when – 6 years ago – I came across a protein that didn’t use soy, was undenatured (not heated to a high heat that kills off enzymes), and was a cold pressed whey protein from grass fed cows not given hormones or antibiotics. (I had also pulled out anything in my diet that could have added hormones because of my imbalance issues). I started using one of their detox systems 6 years ago, and to this day still use their products. You can check out a great video describing them HERE, and if you would like more information out them you can get that HERE.
*2 scoops of Chocolate Protein Shake
*2 oz of coffee (Preferably organic. I use one that is infused with MCT oils, green tea, and minerals)
*1 Tbsp of unsweetened coconut flakes
*6oz of water
-Pour all elements in a blender, mix and enjoy! You can play around with the consistency. If you like it thicker you can use more ice/less water, and if you like it thinner, then more water/less ice.
Now after writing this, I think I will go make myself one. 🙂 Please let me know if you try it and if you love it as much as I do! Also I would love to hear some of your favorite shake combinations in the comments below.
